They are trained for self-defence, just not that way. They are taught to use forethought, and not provoke unnecessary attention. It is spiritual training they receive.

Is practicing Capoeira wrong/bad/discouraged by Jehovah's Witnesses?
by aikichristian inmy girlfriend used to be an avid capoeira practicioner for over year.
she has reaped many benefits from it: increased physical fitness, flexibility, some self-defense skills, and stress-relief.
she enjoyed it.. unfortunately, an article came out in the spanish version of the "watchtower" ("atalaya" in spanish) essentially saying that capoeira should not be practiced because it has some spirituality stuff in it that was wrong.

Hebrew was written without vowels and still often is. Names such as Jehoram and Isaiah have been preserved down to our day and are accepted as valid, so why not the name Jehovah.

to Atlantis: Jehovah is certainly more offended by people killing in his name than with imperfect humans mispronouncing his name. I don't expect a foreigner to use English as well as I can, so why would Jehovah expect any more of imperfect people. It just doesn't figure. Each language has its own unique set of sounds that define it. We don't speak Biblical Hebrew, nor does anyone else on the planet. Pronunciations and grammar (and the shape of alphabetic letters) has changed in Hebrew, as it has in English and every other language. Love changes with it respectfully. Jehovah is humble and does come down to our level in some ways when he addresses us.

I'm a Liar
by Perry inso, i'm downtown quite early the other morning while still dark and i see a man holding an awake.
so, i pull over and wave him over.
after a few words of cordiality, i ask him why jehovah's witnesses teach that jesus returned invisibly in 1914 when jesus himself said this:in matthew 24:.

It depends what money and control is for. Most every human alive needs some of what money can buy. And every individual and group needs to have good control of its objectives.

JWs don't have churches. The groups are called households/families, Book Study groups, Congregations, Circuits, Districts, and Zones. Their buildings are called Kingdom Halls or Assembly Halls. Liars can still attend, especially if they'd like to repent.

to AuldSoul: I took part in the bread & "wine" every Sunday until I understood 1 Corinthians 5. I'm glad I stopped partaking,
1 Corinthians 5 has nothing to do with drinking the blood and eating the body of Christ so I'm not sure how you relate that.
to A. Kate: I was thinking of 1 Cor.5:7-8. The group I was with took had all those baptized into it take part of "emblems" every Sunday. Their "emblems" were a slice of leavened bread (often regular store-bought bread with the crust removed, and shaped like a square) and a glass of grape juice unthawed from a can. Once I understood what bread & wine would have been used by Jesus (and that he only partook once a year), I switched affiliations.
Jesus said that if you are a believer in Him you will drink His blood and eat His body and if you do not, you have no life in you. Those are pretty strong words. No life in you, none. John 6
Since I have an earthly hope (never having believed that I was to be bought from the earth as the 144,000 are, nor that I would rule as a king/priest), I stopped partaking. I don't expect to get everlasting life until the end of the Millenium. Unless I'm judged to be a Liar, in which case I'd be in line for the second death. (Rev.21:8.)

The passing of the bread and wine replaced the annual Passover Meal for the true Christian, who at that time was a Jew, as was Jesus. The heavenly hopes for Samaritans and Gentiles wasn't granted until later, unless I'm a liar. God knows.

The Scriptures are being fulfilled, just as the FDS say they would be. Jehovah oversees the fulfillment of Scriptures, not you or me. Jehovah doesn't lie. He's not a man like us.

I'm not a member of the New Covenant or of the Heavenly Class, as the ones at the Last Supper table were. Since I'm of the earthly class, I'm not bought from the earth, and I don't share in sacrificing my life. I've been called to stay on earth.

Perry, your questions look like those of the serpent to Eve in Genesis 3, and designed to throw the reader off balance. I didn't read more than the first paragraph where I saw questions, this time. I'm not interested in wasting my time or yours. As Jesus said in his rebuke to Satan at Matthew 4:10, Jehovah is your God, it is Him you must worship and render your sacred service.
